Minister of Tourism Mazen Al-Salehani discussed with Minister of Culture Mohammad Yassin Saleh ways to enhance the aesthetic appeal of tourist and heritage sites in Syria to attract visitors and investors. Both sides presented proposals to develop and rehabilitate areas such as the Citadel of Damascus, Al-Hamidiyah Souq, Al-Marjeh Square, and Al-Sulaimaniyah Tekkiye, after assessing each one. The proposals included restoring the entrance of Al-Hamidiyah Souq, adding artistic lighting and decor that harmonizes with the traditional setting of the market, rehabilitating Al-Marjeh Square by enhancing building facades in stages, starting from the square's appearance and visual identity, and progressing to the implementation phase. They also discussed activating the Citadel of Damascus on a monthly or weekly basis, hosting celebrations inside the citadel during national events, Ramadan, holidays, shopping festivals, and cultural weeks. The Ministry of Tourism presented a short film during the meeting about Al-Sulaimaniyah Tekkiye, its rehabilitation works, and outlined a plan for its sustainable opening. According to SANA, the Minister of Culture stated that the main goal of the meeting is to strengthen cooperation between the ministries and sign a long-term cooperation memorandum to develop cultural tourism in a way that suits the new image of Syria. Minister Saleh emphasized that the cultural situation affects all aspects, including tourism, and that any field should be based on the national culture of the Syrian people, reflecting their authenticity and historical victory achieved through the Syrian revolution.
