First Round of the Syrian People's Council Elections Supreme Committee Launches from Damascus

During the meeting, the committee's president, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ahmad, presented a detailed presentation on the committee's work mechanism and tasks, outlining its initial vision for the electoral process, the timetable for upcoming activities, as well as a draft of the conditions for membership of subcommittees and electoral bodies, and the representation mechanism and the number of members in each.
Al-Ahmad pointed out that the current stage primarily requires a legislative council, given the country's need to develop legislation in line with the requirements of rebuilding the new Syria, emphasizing that the committee seeks to select candidates with experience and competence in political, economic, and legislative fields, to enhance the effectiveness of the upcoming council.
The committee's president affirmed that meetings with official and popular entities aim to exchange ideas and gather proposals within the framework of brainstorming sessions, to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the electoral procedures, emphasizing that the committee is keen on adopting clear criteria that lead to the formation of a strong popular council capable of performing its legislative and representational role effectively.
On the other hand, the governor of Damascus emphasized the importance of official and popular efforts coming together to support the Supreme Committee for Elections, pointing to the necessity of positive interaction from the local community with this national event to ensure achieving effective representation that reflects the aspirations of citizens within the People's Council.
