File of Syrian Detainees in Lebanon Threatens Escalation in Relations

Amid the completely unstable relationship between Syria and Lebanon, the file of Syrian detainees emerges as one of the most sensitive issues in the relations between the two countries after the fall of the Assad regime.

The escalation involves discussions of possible Syrian measures at the economic level, such as imposing restrictions on the movement of Lebanese trucks crossing Syrian territories.


Lebanese economic circles warn of the repercussions of this crisis, while Damascus suggests that resolving this file constitutes a test of Beirut's seriousness in building a new relationship based on mutual respect and institutional coordination.

Here, the fate of over 2000 Syrian detainees, most of whom are held without trials, remains in conditions described as catastrophic inside Lebanese prisons, amidst a clear absence of any executive vision to end their suffering.
