The European Union threatens massive sanctions against "X"... What awaits Musk?

The European Union is preparing to impose significant sanctions on Elon Musk's platform "X" for violating laws against harmful content and misleading information. The expected sanctions could amount to fines exceeding a billion dollars, marking the first penalties to be imposed under the new "Digital Services Act," which requires social media platforms to monitor their content more closely. The announcement of these sanctions is expected this summer, potentially escalating tensions between the European Union and the United States, especially given the strong relationship between "X" and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Investigations into "X" began in 2023, with European regulators discovering that the platform was not complying with laws properly, issuing a preliminary ruling last year regarding these violations. Despite investigations slowing down after Trump took office, the European Union has now decided to proceed with actions against "X," amidst rising trade tensions between America and Europe. Charges against "X" include failure to provide data to researchers, making it difficult to measure the spread of misleading information, as well as a lack of transparency in platform advertisements and advertisers. There are also concerns that the platform does not adequately verify paid user accounts for "verified" status, exposing it to misuse and external interference. If Musk refuses to comply with these demands, it could lead to a significant legal battle, not only for "X" but also for the future regulation of social media platforms in Europe and America.
