Following the cessation of the war between Iran and Israel, the damages and losses are beginning to emerge in numbers. The Israeli newspaper "Maariv" quoted the Israeli Tax Authority as saying that 43,000 compensation claims, 80% of which are related to damages to homes during the war with Iran.
The Hebrew newspaper reported that Iranian missiles caused, in addition to loss of life, the destruction of buildings and streets, leaving tens of thousands of residents homeless.
It added that the war with Iran, which lasted only 12 days, caused massive destruction in Israel.
It explained: "In addition to the 28 civilians killed, ballistic missiles destroyed residential buildings, institutions, and public buildings, and it will take years to rehabilitate the affected areas and rebuild what the Iranian missiles destroyed, if possible at all".
So far, the Income Tax Compensation Fund has received nearly 43,000 claims for damages, with additional claims being submitted daily, 80% of which are related to damages in residential homes, and 20% to damages in public institutions, shops, offices, parks, and vehicles.
Miri Savion, Deputy Director of the Israeli Tax Authority, explained that "these are numbers we have not seen before, even in other wars".
She mentioned, "For example, since October 7th, during a tough and long war, we received approximately 75,000 direct damage compensation claims, within a year and a half.
She continued, "We are talking here about an incident that lasted 12 days, and the scale of the damages is nearly half of this number. Massive damage in a short time".
She added, "Compared to previous wars, including the 'Iron Sword' war, the damages to properties are greater, we have a larger number of cases of completely destroyed apartments, which will take longer to renovate, as well as estimating the damages to the destroyed contents will take longer".
She said, "Our current estimates indicate that the direct damages in this incident, including compensation for direct damages, will exceed 4 billion shekels".
