EU and Ukraine reach preliminary agreement on future agricultural exports to the bloc
EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič said on Monday that the EU and Ukraine have reached a preliminary agreement on future agricultural exports to the bloc.

The EU temporarily lifted customs duties and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural products in June 2022 following the Russian invasion to help Kyiv offset the increased costs of its exports through the bloc after Russia threatened its traditional shipping lanes in the Black Sea.

However, these measures were suspended earlier this month after a surge in cheaper Ukrainian grains, poultry, and sugar sparked protests in neighboring countries, particularly Poland.

The bloc has returned to the trade agreement it had with Ukraine before the war, imposing customs duties and quotas limiting agricultural trade.

EU data indicates that it is Ukraine's largest trading partner and that Kyiv is the bloc's third-largest supplier of agricultural food products.
