According to media reports, including CNN Brazil, the suspect Ana Paula Veloso Fernandes — a 36-year-old mother and law student from São Paulo — kept the decomposing body of the property owner in her home for five days before notifying the police.

Police Chief Halison Ediaao stated that Fernandes shows a "complete lack of remorse" and actually enjoys the criminal act itself, noting that she is "highly manipulative" and "will attempt to kill again if released".
