French city of Cannes to allow docking of one cruise ship daily

The French city of Cannes plans to allow fewer cruise ships to dock in its ports daily.
Starting next year, one ship carrying more than 3,000 passengers will be allowed to dock daily, as announced by the city council last Saturday.
A total of 34 cruise ships will be allowed to dock in the bay of Cannes throughout the year, and by 2027, this number will be reduced to 31 ships, according to the German news agency "dpa".
Cannes aims to attract more smaller, modern, and environmentally friendly passenger ships.
Starting in 2030, Cannes plans to allow docking of ships carrying a maximum of 1,300 passengers.
The city's mayor, David Lisnard, said: "The bay of Cannes is an environmental treasure and a source of biodiversity that must be protected", and the city administration has imposed strict environmental rules on cruise ships for several years.
The city council stated that 175 passenger ships docked in the city last year, bringing 460,000 passengers to the city.
It is noted that large cruise ships do not dock in Cannes itself, but in the bay off the city, and then passengers are transferred on smaller boats.
