The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has called on all commercial ships to exercise extreme caution when passing through the vicinity of the port of Hodeidah and the surrounding areas west of Yemen, emphasizing the need to "carefully consider the continued navigation hazards in these areas before crossing."
The organization explained in an alert issued yesterday evening that security risks persist due to repeated military targeting in the region, amid ongoing mutual attacks between the Houthi group and Israel, with the possibility of Israeli air force resuming airstrikes on the port that has been subjected to a series of raids over the past three months.
The British organization had issued a similar warning on May 11th, noting that ships approaching the shore or passing within less than one kilometer of ports are at greater risk due to the ongoing combat activity in the Red Sea.
This warning comes amid escalating tensions in the region, increasing the maritime navigation risks in the port of Hodeidah, a vital port located on the Red Sea and a crucial point for commercial activities in Yemen and the region.
