The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned on Wednesday, March 26, the repeated Israeli attacks on Syria, following the shelling of the village of Kouya in the western Daraa countryside in Syria with tanks, resulting in the death of 6 civilians. This came after Israeli forces infiltrated the area and clashed with the residents.

In a statement issued by the Secretary-General's spokesperson, Jamal Rashed, Aboul Gheit expressed his "strong rejection of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syrian territories," describing them as a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and an obvious attempt to exploit the delicate situation in Syria.

Aboul Gheit emphasized the need for the Security Council "to play its role in stopping the unjustified Israeli aggression," calling on Israel to respect international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. He also urged the international community to "adopt firm positions to deter Israeli aggressive and settlement policies."

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the Arab League's full solidarity with Syria, declaring its support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, amidst the repeated Israeli escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.
