The Israeli General Security Service, Shin Bet, announced on Tuesday the arrest of a couple from the city of Ra'anana on suspicion of spying for Iran.
The Israeli newspaper, Maariv, quoted the agency as saying that the crime-fighting unit carried out the arrest operation in the Sharon area after a week-long secret investigation, focusing on suspicious activities believed to have been carried out by the couple, including communication with Iranian entities suspected of recruiting agents within Israel.
During the raid on their apartment in Ra'anana, the police seized several mobile phones, computers, and other technical equipment, as well as electronic messages and correspondences suspected to have taken place between the detainees and operatives linked to Tehran.
According to a police spokesperson, the couple was taken to the Sharon district police station for questioning under the supervision of the espionage unit. They are expected to be brought before the court later for a hearing on extending their detention pending investigation.
