The Minister of Education and Higher Education in the Syrian Arab Republic, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko, honored student Mazen Fandi from Hama Governorate for his excellence in achieving third place in the world at the World Chess Championship for the under-12 category.
The honoring took place during a special ceremony held at the ministry's headquarters in the capital, Damascus, following student Fandi's winning of the bronze medal in the global championship hosted by the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan from September 19 to 30 last month.
In his speech during the ceremony, Minister Turko emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting outstanding students and nurturing creativity, noting that the ministry is working on a special training plan for student Fandi, aimed at enabling him to achieve first place in upcoming global championships.
It is worth mentioning that this year's World Chess Championship for various age categories witnessed strong competition, with the participation of more than 800 players representing 84 countries around the world, where student Fandi represented his country with distinction and achieved an accomplishment that adds to Syria's record of achievements in international forums.
