Syrian Minister of Economy: Salary Increase Vital Step to Stimulate Economy and Alleviate Living Burdens

Dr. Mohammad Nadal Al-Sha'ar, Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry, affirmed that the decrees issued by President Ahmad Al-Shar'a to increase salaries and wages by 200%, "constitute a very important step at this critical time, given their economic, social, and humanitarian implications".
This came during a statement made by Minister Al-Sha'ar to SANA news agency, where he explained that "this increase contributes to stimulating domestic demand and boosting the economy, while simultaneously alleviating the living burdens on citizens and enhancing social stability". He added that it "reflects the state's firm commitment to improving the living conditions of citizens as a top priority, despite facing challenges and complex circumstances".
The Minister also called on the private sector, saying: "From our position at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, we call upon and urge our partners in the private sector, in all its forms, to take similar steps in raising salaries and wages, in line with these national orientations, to contribute to improving the living conditions of all citizens, establishing the principle of justice, and enhancing integration between the public and private sectors".
President Al-Shar'a issued Decree No. (102) for the year 2025 yesterday, which stipulates a 200% increase in salaries and wages for civilian and military workers in ministries, administrations, public institutions, public sector companies, administrative units, as well as joint sector entities in which the state's contribution is not less than 50% of their capital.
The increase also included retirees under Decree No. (103) for the year 2025, granting them a 200% increase from the effective pension value at the date of the decree's issuance, for those covered by the existing insurance, pension, and social security laws."
