The 14th International Conference on Middle Eastern Antiquities kicked off yesterday in Lyon, France, with prominent participation from the Syrian Arab Republic. The Syrian delegation includes the Director General of Antiquities and Museums, Dr. Anas Haj Zaidan, and the Director of Excavation and Archaeological Studies, Dr. Masoud Badawi. This conference is one of the most prominent global events specialized in Middle Eastern antiquities, serving as a distinguished scientific platform for exchanging expertise and knowledge among archaeologists from around the world, especially with the participation of all archaeological missions operating in Syria. The conference spans three days featuring numerous research papers and presentations, as well as the establishment of partnerships and memoranda of understanding aimed at enhancing projects for preserving cultural and historical heritage in the Middle East region. More than 500 researchers and scholars from about 50 countries are participating in the conference, including several Syrian researchers specializing in various archaeological fields, discussing the latest developments and archaeological findings, in addition to modern techniques used in preserving historical heritage. This conference presents an important opportunity to shed light on Syrian heritage and contribute to the development of excavation and maintenance efforts, enhancing Syria's status as one of the richest countries in the region in terms of its antiquities and civilizational history.
