Syrian media reported that the European Union Commissioner for Middle East Affairs, Dubravka Suica, is scheduled to arrive in the Syrian capital, Damascus, today, Wednesday. According to circulating information, Suica is expected to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad to discuss areas of mutual cooperation and relations between the European Union and Syria in the upcoming period. The visit comes amid increasing diplomatic movements aimed at reopening communication channels between Damascus and Brussels, especially in light of the political changes in Syria following the fall of the previous regime.
