Sudan Produces 37 Tons of Gold During the First Half of 2025 Despite Security Challenges

The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company announced that the country's total gold production during the first half of the current year 2025 reached approximately 37 tons, despite the security and economic challenges facing the country due to ongoing armed conflict.
Sudan's gold production in 2024 exceeded 64 tons, all of which were exported, although official estimates indicate that about 30% of the gold produced during the same year was smuggled.
The mining sector in Sudan is experiencing a noticeable revival, with all pre-war operating companies fully resuming their operations, and the current number of state-owned companies operating in the sector reaching about 40 companies.
Traditional mining remains the cornerstone of the industry, covering 80% of Sudan's area, and has seen significant expansion in employment, with the number of workers rising to around 4 million citizens, compared to only 2 million workers before the war.
The Sudanese government relies on gold as a vital source to boost revenues, especially amidst the decline in other economic activities, and the halt of agricultural and industrial exports due to the ongoing conflict that hinders supply chains and production in many sectors.
