Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has revealed her concerns about the reduction in funding for her initiative to address sexual violence in conflict zones following UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's aid cuts.
The British newspaper The Independent reported that the funding settlement for the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) ended on Thursday, while critics of the decision to cut international aid urged Johnson to urgently approve a new budget for the program.
Demands to extend aid and support the initiative come as it "maintains a strong strategic alignment with the current government's priorities," but Johnson's cuts, which he used to fund a defense budget increase, came after only four months.
British officials insist that the program will be funded until the end of 2026, with millions of pounds allocated for the next fiscal year, but it appears that the funds came from extending its initial settlement over a longer period, with experts warning that the program faces months of uncertainty until a new multi-year deal is announced.
