The Iranian police command of Hormozgan province announced the seizure of 719 small smuggled drones during a thorough inspection of a sailing ship at Parsian port in southeastern Iran on the Strait of Hormuz.
The main suspect was arrested and handed over to the judicial authorities, while investigations continue to identify the other involved parties.
Brigadier General Ali Akbar Javidan, the provincial police chief, explained that the economic police forces of the West Hormozgan customs suspected the ship while unloading its cargo, and after coordination with judicial authorities and in cooperation with inspection and port security teams, the smuggled drones were found hidden in a professional manner inside the ship's structure.
Javidan pointed out that the police forces continue their intelligence and field operations rigorously to prevent smuggling activities that threaten the country's economy.
It is noteworthy that the drones had marked a turning point in the Israeli-Iranian war last June, as Israeli drones launched from within Iranian territory attacked several military sites, which military experts considered an unprecedented development in the nature of wars.
In the same month, Iranian police seized another 14 drones and detected workshops for their production and vehicles equipped with drone cargo in several regions.
This operation reflects an intensive effort by Iranian authorities to curb the smuggling of these drones, which have become a security and economic threat in the region.
