Saudi Arabia Welcomes International Recognition of the State of Palestine and Calls for More Steps Towards Peace

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by Britain, Australia, Canada, and Portugal, coinciding with the launch of the Two-State Solution Alliance Conference in New York City.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed in its statement that these recognitions reflect a serious commitment from friendly countries to support the path of just peace and to enhance efforts to reach a two-state solution based on relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

The Kingdom expressed its hope that other countries would follow these positive initiatives, which would enhance the chances of achieving comprehensive peace, meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people for a dignified life on their land, and strengthen the capabilities of the Palestinian Authority to carry out its tasks towards a future characterized by security, stability, and prosperity.

This step, considered a significant shift in the international stance, provoked anger from the Israeli government, as several Israeli ministers called for the annexation of the West Bank, reflecting the tension caused by the increasing wave of recognitions of the Palestinian state.

In exclusive statements, Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr. Farsin Agabkian stated that these recognitions represent an inherent political right for the Palestinian people and a clear victory for Palestinian diplomacy over the logic of arms and force.

She added: "Recognition of our state sends a clear and strong message to Israel, indicating that the international community rejects settlement and insists on the two-state solution as the only way to achieve peace."

Agabkian confirmed that the priority of the Palestinian leadership now is to stop the war and starvation in Gaza, noting that the current circumstances require everyone, including Hamas, to realize that we are facing a new reality represented by the embodiment of the Palestinian state.

She also emphasized that the recognition by Britain specifically carries special symbolism, as it strengthens the legal position of Palestine and is considered a historic step from a country with significant political weight.

In an unprecedented development, the British government has included the State of Palestine in its official maps for the first time, which Western media considered a qualitative shift in its foreign policy towards the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

For its part, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry praised the significant role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in rallying international support for the recognition of the Palestinian state, considering that Saudi movements are a fundamental pillar in enhancing the political and legal presence of Palestine on the international stage.

This international movement came in light of the momentum created by the Two-State Solution Alliance Conference held in New York, which brings together several countries and international and regional organizations with the aim of reviving peace negotiations and solidifying international recognition of the Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
