The Syrian artist Samer Al-Masri made a moving appeal to support Syrian refugees who wish to return to their homeland, as many of them face financial difficulties hindering the realization of this dream. Al-Masri posted on his official Instagram account an inquiry about the existence of Syrian, Arab, or international entities that may provide support to these refugees, urging his followers to contact him to provide any information that could facilitate the return process.
This initiative comes after a similar call made by the artist Maxim Khalil, who shed light on the suffering of displaced people in camps, emphasizing that many do not even have enough resources to cover the costs of returning to their homes, despite the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024. Khalil appealed to relief organizations to organize donation campaigns and provide transportation to help these displaced people, especially since many of them still own homes in the areas they were displaced from.
Regarding the artistic community, Samer Al-Masri stated his refusal to work with some Syrian artists who supported the previous regime and continued to oppose the revolution. During a television interview, Al-Masri clarified his firm stance towards the artistic community, emphasizing that he cannot collaborate with anyone who "practiced and continues to practice thuggery," indicating that this principle is non-negotiable.
Al-Masri explained that Syrian society is divided into three categories; the first includes silent supporters of the regime, while the second category consists of individuals who adopt fluctuating positions based on their personal interests. Al-Masri pointed out that there can be no sympathy for the third category, which initially supported the regime, then criticized it, before returning to defend it, declaring his unequivocal refusal to deal with this category and affirming that principles are non-negotiable.
Regarding his return to Syria after a 13-year absence due to his stances, Al-Masri described the moment as a mix of joy and sadness, affirming that the feeling of belonging to the homeland is priceless, and that true security lies in the land of the homeland.
