UNHCR revealed in a recent report that more than 52,000 registered Syrian refugees in Jordan have returned to Syria since December 8th, following recent political changes. The report, published by the Jordanian Kingdom Channel, indicated that the average daily returnees reached 372 refugees, a significant increase compared to the previous week's rate of 180 refugees. The report also noted that the total number of Syrians returning from Jordan since the opening of the Jaber (Nasib) border crossing in 2018 has exceeded 107,000 refugees. The demographic composition of the returnees remained similar to previous weeks, with women and girls accounting for about 45% of returnees, children around 42%, and men (aged 18-40) approximately 23%. On a broader scale, UNHCR reported that more than 372,550 Syrian refugees have returned to their country from neighboring countries, including Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq, and Egypt, since the political changes until early April. The report also mentioned the return of about 1.05 million internally displaced persons to their areas in Syria by the end of March, while approximately 674,000 internally displaced persons remain within the country. Jordan has been hosting around 1.3 million Syrians since 2011, including about 600,000 officially registered refugees with the UNHCR. Jordan's Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya stated on March 3rd that more than 44,000 Syrians have voluntarily returned to their homeland after the recent changes.
