The Danish police announced today, Monday, the arrest of 20 people during a demonstration demanding that the maritime transport company "Maersk" stop delivering military equipment to Israel.
According to images published by local media, the police were seen using batons and tear gas to disperse dozens of protesters.
The Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was among the protesters who gathered at Maersk's headquarters in Copenhagen.
Thunberg said in a video posted on social media: "We are here to demand that Maersk stop transporting weapons and weapon components to Israel... They must end all contracts and investments that support the genocide and occupation of Palestine."
Thunberg, who has been at the forefront of the climate protest movement "Fridays for Future," has participated in several demonstrations in support of Palestinians since October 7, 2023.
Maersk, on its part, stated that its shipments do not include "weapons and ammunition," and said, "These shipments contain equipment related to that military based on the US-Israeli security cooperation program. The shipments have been inspected and comply with applicable laws."
A police spokesperson mentioned, "We tried to use dialogue to persuade the protesters to leave the area. It is a private zone. In the end, the dialogue stopped, and we had to use necessary means to remove the protesters from the area."
