The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, emphasized that Europe must act "to confront Israel's continuous violations of human rights".
In his statements to the press today, Thursday, Sanchez pointed out that Europe "applies double standards and is not even able to suspend the partnership agreement with Israel", calling on Europe to act "to confront Israel's continuous violations of human rights".
He added: "Today in Brussels, I will call on Europe to immediately suspend the partnership agreement with Israel".
The leaders of the European Union are holding a two-day meeting in Brussels on June 26 and 27 to discuss geopolitical and economic challenges, with a special focus on the war in Ukraine, escalating tensions in the Middle East including Gaza, as well as defense, security, immigration, and economic competitiveness issues.
At the end of May, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on the European Union to suspend the partnership agreement with Israel and impose a comprehensive ban on arms exports to it, as part of the pressure on Israel to stop its aggression in Gaza.
This came during a European-Arab summit in Madrid, where Spain emphasized that the continued military support for Israel exacerbates the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and called for the opening of humanitarian corridors without restrictions.
