Turkey Connects Its Gas Network to Syria in Preparation for Export

The Turkish Energy Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, stated that Turkey has connected its gas network to the Syrian network and intends to start exporting gas to Syria.

This announcement was made during a speech by the Turkish minister at the 9th international conference of OPEC held in Vienna on July 9 and 10.

The Turkish minister said: "I would like to announce something new; we have connected the Turkish gas network to the Syrian network and we intend to start exporting gas to Syria. We hope to find partners for this project to provide the necessary gas for power generation in Syria, which will contribute to restoring normal life there."

In May, the Turkish minister announced the completion of the natural gas pipeline connection with Syria, aiming to export blue fuel to the country.

Syria suffers from a severe shortage of electricity, with power available for only a short period each day due to the destroyed infrastructure after years of war. The Syrian government is launching various projects to improve the electricity sector and drive the Syrian economy forward.

Approximately two months ago, Damascus announced the signing of agreements with international companies to expand the electricity network by 5000 megawatts, with the goal of doubling the electrical capacity in Syria.
