Our musical tastes become more specific and less diverse as we age.. A scientific study reveals the reason!

A recent international study revealed that our musical preferences become more specific and less diverse as we age, and the number of songs we classify as favorites decreases.
The study analyzed listening habits of over 40,000 people over 15 years, showing that the ability to explore new musical genres gradually declines with age, which directly reflects on individuals' favorite song lists.
Researchers noted that listeners in their teenage years tend to experiment with a wide range of artists and musical styles, while their choices become narrower as they age, focusing on songs associated with personal experiences and nostalgia. Researchers say that nostalgia for the music they enjoyed in their youth plays a key role in middle age and older adults.
The study was based on data from over 542 million streams of more than a million songs on music streaming platforms, allowing researchers to track changes in musical preferences across different age groups.
The study's results confirmed that music streaming services should consider the differences between age groups, as younger listeners seek new and trending music, while those in middle age prefer a balance between new and familiar songs, and older adults are particularly interested in music linked to their memories and past experiences.
