Minister of Education Discusses Educational Situation in Syria with UNESCO

Minister of Education in Syria, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turkoo, discussed today, Monday, with the Director of the Regional Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Paolo Fontani, the educational situation in Syria.
The Minister Turkoo emphasized during the meeting the necessity of providing a suitable educational environment for students returning to Syria and securing schools for them, pointing out that the ministry appreciates all efforts made to improve the educational situation in Syria and enhance the condition of school buildings, as they are the cornerstone of the educational process.
The Minister of Education also mentioned that the ministry has allocated a room for activities in each school to teach students skills related to moral values, including civil peace, as education and culture are the keys to peace in the new Syria.
On his part, the Regional Director highlighted the importance of the positive role played by international organizations in rehabilitating schools, stressing the need to assess the needs of schools to determine the extent of damage and reach a common plan to rehabilitate schools in order to provide the best services and develop education in Syria.
Fontani expressed his appreciation for the important role played by the Ministry of Education, the Syrian government, noting that Syria's return to the international arena is a positive step that enhances its international status.
