The Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly met with his Palestinian counterpart Mohammed Shtayyeh in the Egyptian capital Cairo on Saturday to discuss the early recovery plan and reconstruction of Gaza, which will be presented at the upcoming emergency Arab summit expected to be held next Tuesday.
Cairo is set to host an emergency Arab summit on March 4 with the aim of "formulating a strong Arab stance on the Palestinian issue in general, and presenting a general Arab proposal to counter the American proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza."
The Egyptian Cabinet's presidency stated in a Facebook post that Madbouly "received his Palestinian counterpart this morning at the Cabinet headquarters in Cairo, where both sides reviewed the outlines of the early recovery plan and the reconstruction of Gaza to be presented at the Arab summit."
Madbouly emphasized "Egypt's steadfast support for the Palestinian brothers and their legitimate rights, especially the right to self-determination and the independence of the Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines with its capital in East Jerusalem."
He also mentioned that, in compliance with the directives of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, "the Egyptian government has prepared a comprehensive plan for early recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, while keeping Palestinian citizens in the sector during the reconstruction process."
He stressed that "the Egyptian state is exerting its utmost efforts to support the Palestinian cause and the fraternal Palestinian people, whether through continuing efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement in all its stages, or the reconstruction in the Gaza Strip."
On the other hand, the Palestinian Prime Minister expressed "appreciation for Egyptian efforts to support the Palestinian people, praising President Sisi's efforts to support legitimate Palestinian rights, reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip, and the efforts of all Egyptian state institutions," according to the same statement.
The meeting was attended by Badr Abdel Atti, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, and from the Palestinian side by Wael Zaqout, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, and Diab Al-Louh, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Egypt, according to the statement.
Since January 25, former US President Donald Trump has been promoting a plan to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan, a plan rejected by these countries, along with other Arab countries and regional and international organizations.
Meanwhile, Egypt is working on formulating and presenting a comprehensive Arab plan to reconstruct Gaza without relocating Palestinians from it, fearing the settlement of the Palestinian issue.
