In a medical achievement recorded for the first time in Egypt, a specialized medical team at Al-Mabara Hospital in Old Cairo, affiliated with the Therapeutic Foundation, successfully performed a precise and rare operation on an infant weighing 2.5 kilograms, using thoracoscopic techniques for newborns to repair esophageal atresia, one of the most complex congenital defects in newborns.
The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced today, Sunday, that the surgical procedure was completed successfully using the latest surgical endoscopy techniques, with a focus on minimizing surgical intervention to reduce pain and expedite the child's recovery.
The ministry confirmed that the infant was discharged from the hospital in good health after stabilizing their condition and improving vital signs, noting that they are currently receiving full nutrition.
This achievement marks the first operation conducted as part of the opening of the pediatric surgery department in the hospital, which has been equipped according to the highest medical and technical standards.
The ministry praised the efficiency of the medical team that performed the operation, confirming that this success reflects advanced expertise and medical competencies in Egypt, along with the continuous support from the state to develop the healthcare system in Egypt.
This development comes as part of the Ministry of Health's vision to provide advanced healthcare for children and newborns, and to enhance the capabilities of government hospitals to handle rare and complex cases, as part of the state's efforts to elevate the level of health services provided to citizens.
