Marca crowns Lamin Yamal as the best player in the world for the 2025 season

The Spanish newspaper Marca has chosen the emerging star of Barcelona and the Spanish national team, Lamin Yamal, as the best player in the world for the 2024-2025 season, after he topped their annual ranking of the 'Los 100' list, which includes the top 100 players in the world.
Yamal, who is 18 years old, outperformed prominent stars such as the Frenchman Ousmane Dembele and the Portuguese Vitinia by a margin of over 200 points, succeeding the Brazilian Vinicius Junior, who won the title in the previous edition, and joining a list that includes names like Karim Benzema and Erling Haaland.
The winner was selected through a vote by an international judging panel consisting of 133 members, including journalists from Marca and international media, as well as former players and coaches. Yamal received 3310 points, surpassing Dembele (3100 points) and Vitinia (2732 points), in a voting system where the first place receives 30 points, the second 25, the third 23, and so on.
Despite his absence from the Club World Cup, Yamal managed to take the lead from Dembele, who reached the final, in a clear indication of his individual superiority during the season.
Lamin Yamal had an exceptional season with Barcelona on an individual level, scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists in various competitions:
9 goals and 15 assists in La Liga, 5 goals and 4 assists in the UEFA Champions League, 2 goals and 6 assists in the Copa del Rey, 2 additional goals in the Spanish Super Cup. This marks a significant improvement compared to his numbers in the 2023-2024 season (7 goals and 9 assists).
On the national team level, Yamal maintained his high level after the European Championship, scoring 3 goals and providing an assist with the 'La Roja' team, which won the UEFA Nations League title.
Yamal also contributed to Barcelona's domestic treble, including the Spanish League, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup. Despite the team's failure to reach the Champions League final after being eliminated by Inter Milan in the semifinals, Yamal's outstanding individual performance kept him at the top without any competition.
