Medical reports presented during the trial sessions of the medical team accused of negligence in caring for the football legend Diego Armando Maradona revealed that he suffered "severe agony" before his death, and that his heart weighed around 503 grams, which is double the normal weight of an adult's heart. This was stated by forensic doctor Carlos Mauricio Casinelli, who participated in the autopsy of Maradona's body after his death on November 25, 2020, according to media agencies. Casinelli mentioned that "signs of pain were evident on Maradona's body, suggesting that he may have started experiencing symptoms at least 12 hours before his death." He added that "his lungs were filled with water due to heart failure, a condition that had developed over ten days, along with liver fibrosis." The doctor explained to the Argentine newspaper "La Nación" that these indicators were sufficient to warrant urgent medical intervention, stating that the medical team "should have realized the seriousness of the situation," especially since Maradona had undergone surgery just two weeks before his death and was in a recovery period.
