French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza yesterday, Friday, emphasizing that it is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. He stated that he hopes to discuss this situation urgently with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump. Earlier today, Trump stated during his Gulf tour in Abu Dhabi that the United States is working to address the crisis in Gaza, emphasizing that the situation in the region requires immediate action due to the suffering of the people who are "dying of hunger." Trump added that they are "looking at Gaza and will work to solve this problem." These statements come at a time of escalating Israeli shelling on the region, coinciding with Trump's visit to the area, while efforts to stop the ongoing war are faltering. In the same context, Hamas called on the United States to pressure Israel to allow humanitarian aid to enter the sector after releasing an Israeli-American soldier held this week. The Hamas official, Taher al-Nono, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that Hamas hopes the U.S. administration will exert additional pressure on Netanyahu's government to open crossings and urgently introduce necessary humanitarian aid such as food, medicine, and fuel to the sector's hospitals. Nono added that these pressures were part of "understandings" with American envoys in meetings held last week, leading to Hamas releasing the Israeli-American hostage Ayyad Alexander. Hamas confirmed in its statements on Thursday that the entry of humanitarian aid is the "minimum" that can be negotiated with Israel. Since March 2nd, Israel has been preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, which is estimated to have a population of about 2.4 million people. Israel also resumed its military operations in Gaza on the 18th of the same month after a two-month ceasefire, following a war that erupted after a sudden attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023.
