Kurdistan seizes thousands of copies of the game "Lapopo" due to its high prices and violation of local culture

The Ministry of Trade in the Kurdistan Region announced today, Thursday, the seizure of large quantities of the famous game "Lapopo", confirming that three main reasons stand behind it.

The ministry reported that "the game, which has recently become popular and is called Lapopo, has become a burden on families due to its high prices in light of the financial crisis in Kurdistan". It stated that "4000 copies of the game were seized within 24 hours".

Clarifying that "the marketing of the game is accompanied by a lot of deception and exploitation, as families are forced to buy many of these games in a package that includes different shapes and colors to obtain the rare version, which is akin to a lottery".

It added that "another reason that prompted the authorities to seize the game is that its content does not align with the culture of the Kurdish society and its specificity, in addition to the prohibition of dealing with it if accompanied by lottery operations and fortune-telling, according to a fatwa issued by the Islamic Scholars Union in the region".

The ministry also pointed out that "an intensive campaign was carried out in Erbil in coordination with the relevant authorities to seize the game from markets and commercial stores, and the campaign continues until the last copy is seized".

Furthermore, 4000 copies of the game were seized within twenty-four hours, and financial penalties were imposed on seven commercial stores dealing with it, in addition to a warehouse used for storing those games".
