In a bizarre incident that almost turned into an aviation disaster, Australian police charged a 46-year-old Jordanian man for allegedly attempting to open the doors of a plane mid-flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney via AirAsia. The Australian Federal Police clarified that the incident occurred last Saturday evening when the man tried to open the rear emergency exit door, prompting a swift intervention by the flight crew who managed to restrain him. However, the man didn't stop there and tried to open another emergency door, leading the crew and passengers to restrain him further for everyone's safety. The man also assaulted a crew member during the process. Authorities have charged him with endangering the safety of the aircraft, assault, crimes that carry a maximum penalty of ten years in prison each. Davina Coppin, Acting Detective Inspector in the Australian police, described the actions as potentially leading to tragic consequences, emphasizing that the police will not tolerate any criminal behavior that threatens the safety of air travel. During the court session on Sunday, the man's lawyer stated that his client had consumed a mix of pseudoephedrine, sleeping pills, and alcohol before the flight, claiming that he doesn't remember anything that happened on the plane. The incident sparked widespread debate in the media, especially since passengers and crew experienced terrifying moments due to the unexpected and erratic behavior of a passenger who seemed to have lost control.
