The Israeli army announced today, Sunday, June 8th, the execution of an airstrike targeting a member of the Hamas movement inside Syrian territories, specifically in the area of Beit Jinn Farm located in southern Syria. According to the statement issued by the Israeli army's media office, the airstrike was carried out accurately, targeting a Hamas member present at the mentioned location. The statement did not specify the identity of this member, nor did it reveal additional details about the operation or the extent of the resulting damage. This attack comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Syria, as Israel conducted an airstrike last Tuesday on what it described as "military assets" belonging to the Syrian government in response to the firing of two rockets from Syrian territories towards Israeli lands. Following this, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz directly blamed Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara for the rocket attack. On the other hand, the Syrian government denied the circulating reports about targeting Israeli sites, affirming that it "has not and will not pose a threat to any party in the region," according to official statements. In a notable development, an unknown group called "The Martyr Mohammad Deif Brigades" claimed responsibility for the previous rocket attack. The group's name is believed to refer to the military wing leader of Hamas who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in 2024, indicating the continued symbolic and operational presence of armed Palestinian groups in Syrian territories. It is worth noting that Israel and Syria have recently held direct talks to de-escalate tensions, a rare step in relations that have been fraught with hostility over the past decade, especially since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution in 2011.
