Iranian Company Seeks to Acquire Russian Port in Caspian Sea

The port of Astrakhan has a maritime station in the city of Astrakhan in southern Russia.
This move highlights Iran's increasing participation in the Russian export infrastructure amid strengthening economic relations between the two countries amidst Western sanctions. The Russian newspaper "Kommersant" was the first to report the news.
This deal, valued at around 437.5 million rubles (5.6 million dollars), will give the Iranian company full control over one of the main ports in the Caspian Sea, which is used for shipping grains, metals, timber, and fertilizers.
The port handled about 275,000 tons of grains in the agricultural season 2023-2024, but the quantities decreased to 139,500 tons in the current season with no shipments in May.
The Caspian Sea is a traditional route for transporting Russian grains to Iran.
