Spokesman for the Iranian Judiciary, Asghar Jahangir, announced yesterday, Monday, that the official death toll of the 12-day war with Israel has reached 935, including 38 children and 132 women, according to the latest forensic data.
The number of casualties from the Israeli airstrike on Evin Prison in Tehran has been revised from 71 to 79, amid escalating security tensions between the two countries.
These figures come after an earlier announcement by the Iranian Ministry of Health that estimated the death toll at 610 before the ceasefire began.
The region witnessed increased tension after an Israeli aerial attack on June 13 targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, resulting in the killing of military leaders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with intense missile strikes on Israeli sites, and the United States entered the conflict on June 22 by bombing nuclear facilities in Iran.
This prompted Tehran to respond by launching 14 missiles at the largest American airbase in the Middle East, in addition to marches targeting American bases in Iraq.
A US official confirmed no human casualties from the attacks, indicating that Washington was prepared for this escalation and took precautions.
The tension continued until US President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran after 12 days of unprecedented confrontations, paving the way to ease tensions in the region.
