Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran stated today, Wednesday, that Iran will hold talks in Istanbul on Friday with European parties involved in the currently stalled nuclear agreement, following the postponement of a previous meeting scheduled for May 2. Araghchi mentioned that the fourth round of Iranian-American talks held on May 11 was "difficult" as it focused on the controversial issue of uranium enrichment. He expressed hope that the other party will show "more realistic positions" after gaining a better understanding of Iran's core positions. Araghchi's remarks were in response to comments made by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday in Riyadh, where he described Iran as "the most destructive force" in the Middle East, in stark contrast to what he called a "constructive vision" adopted by Saudi Arabia. Araghchi added: "Unfortunately, this is a deceptive view. The United States is the one hindering Iran's progress through sanctions." Earlier, Reuters reported that Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister will meet with diplomats from France, Britain, and Germany to continue the dialogue and discuss their visions regarding potential new nuclear agreement standards being negotiated between Tehran and Washington. The Omani Foreign Ministry, which has been mediating since the talks began on April 12, will announce the fifth round of talks.
