A Continuous Legacy of Care Extending for 100 Years: Replacing the Cover of the Kaaba

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque changed the cover of the Kaaba on Thursday, as is the annual tradition, in a continuous legacy of care extending for 100 years.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), a team from the King Abdulaziz Complex for Kaaba's Cover started dismantling the old cover and installing the new one, then securing it on the corners and the surface of the Kaaba.

The new cover, weighing 1415 kilograms and standing at 14 meters high, consists of 4 separate sides and the door curtain.

The cover consumes about 825 kilograms of raw silk dyed black inside the complex, 120 kilograms of silver wires plated with gold, 60 kilograms of pure silver wires, and 410 kilograms of raw cotton.
