A new medical study has warned that excessive consumption of sugary drinks may have a negative impact on hair health, leading to hair loss, while iron and vitamin "D" play an important role in supporting healthy and natural hair growth.
Julia Zumpano, a nutrition expert at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States, pointed out that the study's results are not surprising, confirming that "nutrients play a key role in hair growth or loss."
She added in her conversation with the website "Health" that "this study contributes to forming a clearer picture of the essential nutrients for healthy hair growth."
* Study Details:
A team of researchers reviewed and analyzed data from 17 scientific studies involving 61,332 people from around the world, aged between 7 and 77 years, with 97% of them being women.
The researchers concluded that there is a correlation between high consumption of sugary drinks and hair loss.
Scientists suggest that the reason behind this effect is that sugary drinks weaken the body's ability to absorb the nutrients it needs to maintain healthy hair.
Additionally, consuming these drinks may be an indicator of following an unbalanced diet, which contains lower amounts of beneficial nutrients.
* Is the Gut Microbiome the Key?
Zumpano suggests that one possible explanation for this effect is that sugary drinks affect the gut microbiome – a collection of microbes and fungi living in the digestive system – which in turn leads to poor absorption of essential nutrients.
* The Role of Iron and Vitamin "D"
In contrast, the study confirmed that vitamin "D" and iron play a pivotal role in hair growth, as:
_ Vitamin "D": is essential for the formation of cells that turn into new hair follicles.
_ Iron: helps transport oxygen to hair follicles, enhancing their growth and strength.
If you are experiencing hair loss, it may be time to reconsider your diet, reduce your consumption of sugary drinks, and focus on eating foods rich in iron and vitamin "D" to maintain healthy and strong hair.
