Harvard University filed a lawsuit against the administration of President Donald Trump on Friday after the President's decision to ban the acceptance of foreign students. Harvard described this action as a "blatant violation" of the U.S. Constitution and other federal laws. The decision was said to have had an "immediate and severe" impact on the university and over 7,000 visa holders. Harvard stated that the government sought to expel a quarter of the university's students, who are foreign students with significant contributions to the university and its mission. This is the latest action taken by the government in clear retaliation against Harvard for exercising its rights under the First Amendment of the Constitution, by rejecting the government's demands to control the university's administration, curriculum, and the "ideology" of faculty and students. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen issued a decision on Thursday to end Harvard's student and visitor exchange program starting from the academic year 2025-2026, accusing Harvard of "inciting violence, anti-Semitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party." Harvard has approximately 6,800 foreign students in the current academic year, which is equivalent to 27% of the total enrolled students, according to university statistics.
