Family Conflicts and Scandals on TikTok Algeria

In the world of live broadcasts, everything is available to viewers, or as platform owners call them, the "audience," who sit for hours in front of small screens to listen and watch daily details that have become more than just ordinary and have entered the realm of privacy and taboos in Eastern societies at least. Influencers and activists have moved to an advanced stage in confiding in their followers and satisfying their curiosity by broadcasting their very private family conflicts on social media platforms.

In Algeria, a series of broadcasts on the TikTok app has sparked a wave of criticism for inciting violence, divisions, and family disintegration.

The ex-wife of the famous Algerian chef and influencer Hicham Cook, known as Um Mohamed, released a video yesterday in which she stated that she had called him several times to inform him of their son's illness and her need for his help as she lives in a remote area, indicating that "he did not respond to her calls."

The speaker posted three videos in which she confirmed that she had "called him and sent him text messages repeatedly, but he does not respond." The lady, who became an influencer herself on TikTok after her divorce from her husband, also mentioned that her 12-year-old son does not have clothes to wear.
The story of the influencer "Karati" (half a million followers on TikTok) also captured the attention of Algerians during the week, as she claimed to have been physically assaulted by her brother at the instigation of her mother. The brother and mother then posted videos criticizing the daughter's honor and accusing her of theft.
The influencer posted more than one video showing the scratches and scars she suffered as a result of the assault in her shop, and her page turned into a platform for addressing messages to her family.
Meanwhile, the influencer Uncle Rahim posted a video in which he confirmed that his young son broke into his house, destroyed all the equipment he used to shoot his videos and post them on TikTok, claiming that he had tarnished the family's reputation with his dancing and singing.

According to the media personality and follower of the arts and social media, Yahya Tabish, "these behaviors are exhibited by individuals primarily aiming to increase viewership on their accounts, as they compete to address sensitive issues that touch on privacy, even if it involves their own lives."
The speaker added in his statement to "Al Arabiya Net" that "some of them deliberately create tensions or even weave scenarios solely to attract views, while others do not hesitate to share details about their private lives in front of people, without any consideration for the negative effects this may have on their families first, and on society as a whole."
Social specialist Abdelhafid Sandouqi stated that "family conflicts shared on social media platforms can have very negative effects on both the immediate and long-term community."
