European traders said today, Thursday, that a government buyer in Syria has not made any purchases yet after an international tender seeking to acquire about 100,000 tons of wheat flour was closed in April.
They added that Syria may launch a new purchasing tender soon.
The tender required shipments to be delivered within 45 days of contracting.
Syria bought around 100,000 tons of wheat in a previous tender on March 25, believed to be the first major purchase since the regime change in Syria on December 8.

Traders expect Damascus to use a donation from Iraq of about 220,000 tons of wheat to Syria to meet the needs that were supposed to be covered by the required quantities.
