Luxor, southern Egypt, witnessed an incident on Friday evening, February 27, 2026, where two passenger train cars derailed, causing a rapid state of alert without resulting in any injuries.

* Partial Derailment of Aswan - Cairo Train

According to informed sources, two cars from train number 977 heading from Aswan to Cairo derailed while passing through the "Al-Qarareesh" level crossing, leading to a temporary halt of the journey.

Despite the alarming scene, the relevant authorities confirmed that no injuries or human losses were recorded among the passengers or train crew.

* Urgent Response and Full Passenger Safety

Upon detecting the partial derailment, railway authorities quickly moved to secure the passengers and ensure their safety, handling the situation according to emergency procedures.

Specialized technical teams and heavy cranes were dispatched to the accident site to lift the cars and return them to their normal track, in preparation for resuming operations safely.

* Similar Incidents Without Losses

This incident comes just days after a similar occurrence near the "Al-Shamela" level crossing in Beni Suef city, where several cars from a freight train derailed, causing a temporary halt to train operations in the area, without any injuries or loss of life.

The Beni Suef Security Directorate had received a notification from the Transport Police regarding the freight train derailing in front of the Al-Shamela level crossing in the city center, and the situation was managed at that time, allowing operations to resume after necessary measures were taken.

* Expected Resumption of Operations

The relevant authorities are currently working to complete the lifting and technical inspection at the Luxor accident site, with assurances that operations will return to normal as soon as the safety of the tracks and cars is confirmed, ensuring the security and safety of passengers.
