In an unexpected incident, the circus run by the famous Egyptian trainer Anousa Kotta, widow of composer Mohamed Rahim, experienced an unprecedented theft in the North Coast area of Marsa Matrouh Governorate.
A rare white tiger disappeared from its cage, causing confusion and astonishment among the staff and audience.
In her statements, Anousa Kotta revealed the details of the intriguing incident, explaining that she had traveled to Marsa Matrouh several weeks ago to organize circus shows using a group of wild animals, including lions and rare white tigers.
As the time for the evening show approached, she was shocked to find that one of the white tigers, one of the fiercest animals in the circus, had disappeared, and no one was allowed near its cage.
Kotta added that she was greatly surprised by the incident, especially since the tiger was one of the animals that are difficult to handle and known for a high level of security.
Immediately, the police were notified, who quickly responded and examined the scene of the incident.
Despite the difficulty of the investigation, suspicions began to arise about one of the team members working in the circus, and after investigations, this person confessed to stealing the tiger, explaining that he intended to transport it to Alexandria in preparation for selling it.
This incident comes at a sensitive time for Anousa Kotta, who had previously stirred controversy; last July, the Tanta Misdemeanor Court sentenced her to three months in prison after her involvement in an incident where a lion attacked trainer Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel Fattah Ahmed, known as "Mohamed Bastawisi," during a show in a circus in Tanta.
In that incident, the trainer suffered serious injuries that resulted in the amputation of his left arm due to the lion's attack, while investigations indicated that the trainer failed to take the necessary precautions to handle the wild animals, leading to the painful incident.
This recent incident has raised further questions about the management of the circus and the safety of those working in animal shows, at a time when Egypt is witnessing an increase in issues related to animal rights and the safety of those dealing with them.
