The issue of hair loss continues to trouble many, especially young people, amid ongoing searches for effective solutions.
The latest studies published in the journal Nutrition and Health revealed a direct relationship between the consumption of sugary drinks and excessive hair loss.
Hair loss of 50 to 100 hairs daily is considered normal within the hair life cycle, but exceeding this limit indicates a health problem that may be caused by multiple factors such as genetics, stress, and hormonal imbalances.
The study that analyzed 17 scientific publications and included over 61,000 participants showed that excessive consumption of sugary drinks and foods, such as soda, leads to increased insulin levels and inflammation in the body, disrupting hormonal balance, weakening hair follicles, and hindering the absorption of essential nutrients like proteins and iron necessary for hair growth.
It's not just sugar that harms hair; there is a long list of foods that lead to loss of hair vitality and delay its growth, including:
* Salt: Despite containing beneficial sodium, excessive consumption slows down blood circulation and hinders the delivery of nutrients to the scalp, weakening hair and contributing to its loss.
* Fried foods: Rich in hydrogenated oils and trans fats that increase oily secretions in the scalp and clog hair follicles, as well as raising the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) associated with baldness, increasing male hormones which exacerbates hair loss.
* Raw eggs: While cooked eggs are beneficial for hair, consuming them raw causes a deficiency in biotin necessary for keratin formation, and contains a protein that prevents biotin absorption, leading to hair loss.
* Caffeinated soda: Contains high levels of sugar and caffeine, disrupting blood sugar balance and increasing inflammation, while weakening the absorption of calcium and iron essential for hair.
* Certain types of fish: Contain high levels of mercury, such as tuna and mackerel, which delays hair growth. It is recommended to rely on less toxic fish like sardines, salmon, and cod.
* Refined foods: Such as white bread, pasta, and pastries made from white flour turn into quick sugar in the body, causing hormonal imbalances and increased insulin, negatively affecting hair health.
It is worth noting that diet plays a crucial role in hair health, as some poor dietary habits can accelerate hair loss or cause other growth-related issues.
In light of these findings, it is advisable to review the diet and avoid sugars and harmful foods to maintain healthy and strong hair.
