"No Eid in Gaza"... With these painful words, a Palestinian refugee described the situation in the besieged territory drowning in destruction and hunger after two years of continuous war.
Majdal Abu Sharakh, one of thousands of displaced persons, said there is no place for celebration in Gaza, where there is no food, no water, and not even emotions capable of expressing the catastrophe, adding: "We have been through two years of hell... There is nothing to talk about."
The humanitarian situation worsens day by day, as confirmed by Madhat Aabid, a displaced person from Shuja'iya neighborhood, pointing out that "the situation is below zero."
He added that famine is hitting all parts of the territory, and people cannot find the basics of life, wondering: "How can we buy Eid clothes when we have nothing to eat?"
Wednesday night was bloody, with continuous Israeli airstrikes across all areas of Gaza.
In Khan Yunis, Israeli planes targeted tents of displaced persons in the Al-Mawasi area, resulting in the death of 6 Palestinians.
Deir al-Balah, Gaza City, and the northern and eastern areas were not spared from intense artillery and aerial bombardment.
Widespread destruction accompanies the ongoing hunger and famine, with local sources confirming that chaos and rush for aid, due to severe hunger, led to the killing of two truck drivers, complicating distribution operations.
International organizations have called for the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors to deliver aid and prevent further deaths due to malnutrition.
In a temporary step, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which had started aid distribution a week ago, temporarily suspended its operations in the sector to reorganize distribution in a safer and more humane manner.
This escalation comes after the collapse of a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that lasted for two months, ending on March 18th. Since then, the Israeli army has intensified its ground and air operations, especially since May 17th, announcing its determination to free the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza, take control of the entire territory, and end the presence of Hamas.
Amidst these conditions, Eid al-Adha approaches the people of Gaza amidst rubble, besieged by hunger and death, while the world watches from afar.
