The death of a visual artist in Jordan after falling from the balcony of her home, sparking public outcry.

The death of the Egyptian visual artist Aya Adel, 28 years old, has sparked controversy and sadness in Egyptian and Jordanian circles after she fell from the balcony of her seventh-floor apartment in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, 17/02/2025, has turned into a public opinion case, with narratives ranging from the suicide theory claimed by the husband to the possibility of her being a deliberate murder victim, especially after medical and legal evidence supporting the hypothesis of her repeated domestic violence exposure before the incident emerged.
On the night of the incident, the husband was with Aya Adel in the apartment when she fell from the balcony. He later claimed that his wife was in a bad mental state and had committed suicide.
However, the forensic report revealed unjustified injuries on the victim's body, including a skull fracture, internal bleeding, a laceration on the forehead, and severe blows on the left thigh and leg using a blunt object, raising doubts about the husband's claims.
Testimonies from the neighbors and friends of the visual artist indicated that she had been subjected to repeated domestic abuse, further complicating the case and leading to the temporary detention of the husband for investigation.
Aya Adel's family in Egypt rejected the husband's account, affirming that Aya was not suffering from any psychological disorders but was planning to start a new life away from her husband. She was looking for a new job and seeking to rent another house to live with her children.
Aya's brother stated that his sister was trying to escape from a troubled and violent marital relationship and did not show any suicidal intentions.
Some of the victim's friends also confirmed that Aya was not in a bad mental state but was preparing to start anew, contradicting the husband's narrative.
Women's rights activists considered this case not individual but reflective of a broader reality of domestic violence against women in the region, calling for stricter laws to protect women from domestic violence.
Public opinion is divided between those defending the husband due to lack of proven guilt and those who believe that the initial evidence clearly points to a criminal suspicion.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the true cause behind Aya Adel's death.
