In a major legal victory for Harvard University, a US federal judge has announced the extension of the order preventing the administration of US President Donald Trump from revoking the university's authority to enroll foreign students. The decision comes at a critical time as thousands of students are graduating from the prestigious university in Boston, which has been facing intense scrutiny from the US administration for months. Judge Alison Burroughs stated her intention to issue a broad preliminary injunction to maintain the current status quo, after Harvard was previously granted a temporary restraining order halting federal actions. This coincided with the temporary government retreat from implementing the revocation decision, giving the university a 30-day deadline to appeal administratively. The Trump administration had launched a multifaceted attack on the university, including freezing billion-dollar financial grants, conducting investigations into employment discrimination, threatening to revoke tax exemptions, and accusing it of anti-Semitism and collaboration with the Chinese Communist Party _without providing evidence_ according to the university. Days ago, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the start of a campaign to revoke visas for Chinese students, causing frustration among foreign students, who make up more than a quarter of Harvard's student body and 60% of the Kennedy School of Government. Judge Burroughs, appointed by former President Barack Obama, questioned the administration's intentions during the session, stating: "Are we not back to the same point?" hinting at the possibility of repeating the same actions after the deadline expires. Harvard University argued that the decision violates its freedom of expression and due legal process under the US Constitution, considering the attack as part of political pressure on higher education institutions to subject them to the administration's agenda.
