A source close to the Iraqi government said, "The Iraqi Prime Minister made a quick visit to Qatar where he met with the Emir of Qatar and the Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shar'a."
The source added, "The Sudanese emphasized the importance of the Syrian government taking practical and serious steps in combating ISIS."
The Iraqi News Agency reported today, Thursday, that "the trilateral meeting came against the backdrop of rapid developments in the region, especially in Syria, as confirmed by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani."
According to the agency, Al-Sudani stated, "Iraq closely monitors the developments in Syria, especially the military presence of the occupying entity on its territories."
He added, "The Iraqi Prime Minister reiterated his country's firm stance calling for a comprehensive political process in Syria, emphasizing the need to protect the religious and social components in Syria, safeguard places of worship and human rights, especially after the Alawite sect was targeted."
Al-Sudani stressed that "making tangible progress in these issues will contribute to building growing relations and activating cooperation mechanisms that serve the security and stability of the region."
In his first official visit to Qatar, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shar'a arrived in Doha last Tuesday, where he met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussing ways to enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of both the Qatari and Syrian peoples.
Following the visit, Sheikh Tamim stated, "We are pleased with the visit of Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shar'a and the discussions that covered various areas of bilateral cooperation."
