The British special envoy to Syria, Anne Snow, reaffirmed the United Kingdom's steadfast support for accountability and transitional justice pathways in Syria during the commemoration of the annual International Day of the Disappeared.

Snow posted a series of tweets on her account on the platform "X", stating: "The road to truth and accountability remains long for many Syrians," considering this occasion "an opportunity to remember the missing and their loved ones and to appreciate everyone striving for a future of justice and hope."

The British envoy recalled her meeting with Syrian journalist Khaloud Halmi, who conveyed the suffering of Syrian families regarding the issue of the missing, saying: "It has been a year since I sat and talked with Halmi, and since then much has changed, as the Assad regime has fallen and many families have finally been reunited."

This British affirmation comes in conjunction with the International Committee of the Red Cross renewing its call yesterday for all parties to enhance collective efforts to address the plight of tens of thousands of missing persons in Syria, on the occasion of the International Day of the Disappeared, which falls on August 30.
